According to several attorneys, such "negative response" requests are
not a defense if you are challenged on your use of the material copied
without prior permission. One likened this to a person standing in a
neighbor's yard yelling, "I'm going to take your car on a long distance
trip if you don't come to the door and tell me no!"  Should you in fact
take the car, the police who come arrest you for auto theft won't care
much about your shouts.
