Dear LM_NETers,
I have a problem and I am hoping that you can direct my next move. Two
years ago, the school invested in a 14bay CD ROM Tower. It runs fine and
all 14 bays have discs in them. The problem is that the school tech says
that in order for each bay to be accessible on the school's network, the
tech must physically connect each computer (we have some 500 computers
on campus and 12 in the library.) He is unable (read, unwilling) to keep
the 12 in the library connected nevermind the others on campus. Whenever
a change needs to be made because of updates or whatever, I have to wait
weeks or even months for him to do it.
Is all of this necessary? Since the computers are networked and
operate through a server for Microsoft Office 97, isn't there a way that
the CD ROM Tower can be connected in the same way through the server?
I am very frustrated with the situation. Before I left for Easter
break, I once again submitted work orders asking that the CD ROM
programs in the tower be activated on the computers in the library, at
least. I dare not request they be connected on teacher's desks.
In any event have a good holiday. Looking forward to your responses and
yes, thanks a bunch for your advice.

Subject: "Good Conversation" videos

L-M Netters,
It was useful to hear that the omnigraphics Biogaphy Today series is
good. Has any one seen the videos "Good Converstion". They are $50.00
each and are interviews with children's book authors (Madeleine L'Engle,
Betsy Byars, Natalie Babbitt, etc). They are about 20 minutes long.
Thanks in advance.
