Thanks for the comments, Barbara. Your arguement is very convincing. Most who have e-mailed me personally are as surprised to hear a librarian say that as I was. I *did*, however, wonder if perhaps the young lady was a bit defensive about being a librarian. If her family or district or friends had made fun of her for being a "bookworm", perhaps she said what she did to ward off expected comments. Who knows....but I hope she doesn't say that to children.
