If you want to prove to your students, your friends, yourself that the Internet is only *sometimes* the best first source for information, have them take this year's NetTest at the MCI site. I have taken the test several times (there are several editions) and found that I had to restrain myself from jumping up to look in a referench *book* for the answers :) If I could have used a good encyclopedia set, a geographical dictionary, and a World Almanac all but the "pop culture" questions could have been answered lickedy-split. It is lots of fun, though, to test your searching skills this way. MCI is once again offering the challenge of their "Net Test" at http://www.nettest.mci.com. The test consists of 5 ready-reference questions in 5 different categories. Multiple choice answers are provided. When you complete the test you can compare your success with other test takers in your state and the country. Some of the tests seem to be harder/easier than others so don't get either discouraged or self-inflated :) Have fun! -- Sally Lantz mailto:sarahl@ccpl.carr.lib.md.us Media Specialist West Frederick Middle School Frederick, MD 21701 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
