The Iron Ring by Lloyd Alexander This is an epic journey tale based on East Indian mythology. It is always interesting and mind-expanding to read something out of one's normal experience. The tale is wrapped in honor and would be a great discussion book. At every turn in the tale the main character wonders what would be the honorable thing to do. On the epic journey he meets many characters who will help him in the end, and finally he goes through a terrible battle near the end. The closing of the book wraps everthing up neatly. I found the story a combination of Don Quixote and The Wizard of Oz, set in India. Although I found this book very enjoyable, it will be hard sell to most students. The East Indian theme along with the 282 pages will put off most readers in my school but I know some who I will recommend it to. *** Frederick Muller fmuller@planet.net Halsted Middle School Library (973) 383-7440 ext.228 59 Halsted Street FAX (973) 383-7432 Newton, NJ 07860 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
