Earlier this school year I saw a posting the described having "old" technology
around for kid to explore and have some hands on experience with. I thought
this was an idea I could use for our school-wide museum( an activity where
each class or grade must set up exhibits on a subject they study and explain
it to others students-- science fair style)
Well, the event was last Friday and here's what I did for grades K-5
I put these things out with signs tht explained what it was and how we used it
in the Old Days:

a rotary phone next to a push button one and had them time who long it took
to dial the media center phone number.
An 8MM movie projector and showed home movies of me at that age.
A roll of broadcast videotape circ. 1969 next to a broadcast cassette Circ.
1990 ( My husband was in the business)
a microfiche reader with fiche ( remember these kids are 11..tops)
an old test run on a mimeograph machine with the original.
and the biggest hit of the day.. RECORDS ( which they thought were big CD's)
I played the Beach Boys, The Supremes and the soundtrack from Saturday Night
Fever as background.
It was the best received museum... especially by the parents, who saw their
lives flashing before them.

Thank you to whoever made that first post. It was a great day.
