Target: 20th Century Biographies

The fifth grade teachers at our school would like to do a research
project.  The topic they would like to give their students is 20th
Century Biographies.  I'm not a fan of recreating the wheel (and I have
searched the Archives on this topic) so I turn to you.  Does anyone know
of good web sites that we could use?  Also, a "thorough" list from which
the students might choose?  Any and all tips and/or suggestions are
welcome!
