When I was librarian/media specialist in a K-12 school a few
years ago, I did an end of the year competition based on
pictures of staff reading.

I hired a camera savvy high school student (for the cost of film and
printing) to go around and take pictures of staff members reading
something in the classroom or workplace in the school--yes, principals,
secretaries, janitors, and teachers, too. The pictures were taken
over the teacher's shoulder, rather tightly composed, focusing on
the item read, and showing bits and pieces of hand holding book,
ear, hair, wrist watch, back of oneck, shoulder, etc. Enough to
give clues to the identity of the person, but not total recognition.

The pictures were printed to 4x6 size, then mounted on a large
piece of tag board ("double" size, I think), and numbered. The
heading at the top read: GUESS WHO'S READING!!

Students (and staff who could be cajoled into participating) were given
half sheets of scrap paper to use as ballots--one ballot per
person--collaboration encouraged. It's as much as encouragement of
reading as it is a reading the clues problem, and lots of fun.

I scheduled it for the last weeks on school when the library is
closed to checkout--but the kids still need some reason to come
into the library and get their books returned.

And I did give prizes--ANYBODY who entered and answered any right (well,
ok, anybody who entered) got a mini-jaw breaker. After checking over the
entries (I think we gave a somewhat more than a full five day week to
receive entries), we decided on just what level of right answers would
get big jaw breakers as grand prizes.

Lots of fun--Lots of kids scurrying around to see whether the picture
matched who they thought it should be!
