 A new multimedia essay on the Pathways to School Improvement web site
http://www.ncrel.org/pathways.htm discusses the promises and the challenges
inherent in using alternative assessment practices to make various
decisions.  This
research-based yet practical resource will help you determine when it may
be appropriate and when inappropriate to use alternative assessments
(performance-based, portfolios, etc.) especially with regard to equity
concerns.
