Thank you, all the generous people who answered, very very much for answering. I think I am getting better at discipline, but there was a lot of getting better to do. Most of my advisors have said that posting clear rules and expectations and being firm and consistent when these are broken is the best thing you can do. This is school policy also, and I think I'm getting a lot more help and support than many. Our kids are tough (we serve mostly project and homeless families) but so are many others. My principal recommended a book which is unfortunately out of print -- he ahs loaned it to me: Classroom Discipline: an idea handbook for elementary school teachers by Dorothy McKellar Rogers. If anyone knows where I can find a copy, I'd be delighted. I have compiled a long hit without names( because I didn't say I was creating a hit) which is available to those interested.
