We are about to set up a network with a server that will administer the network using Windows NT Server 4.0 and possibly an add on called Small Business Back Room which is supposed to make the software simpler to use. There will be 10 or 11 PCs on the network with Windows 95 operating systems and about 5 or 6 PCs with Windows 3.x operating systems. The network will cross platforms and have some Macintosh systems added, either at the start or in the future. The network will be used to share applications and printers, access CD ROM encyclopedias and data bases and, in the not too distant future for internet access in general and to specific subscription data bases. We have some good technical people on our Tech Committee but no one has experience setting up this type of network in a school setting. We would like to draw on others' experiences with similar networks -- what issues did you consider essential to address for setting up the network; what issues did you run into later that you would have preferred addressing during setup? Any words of warning or encouragement, pros and cons would be appreciated.
