Worthwhile phone calls from vendors

Dear Netters:

There has been a lot of discussion about  phone calls from vendors who have
received information from this list. I have been receiving intrusive calls
for at least 22 years, long before Internet and LM_NET.

Not all calls, however, are intrusive. Last fall I submitted a query to
this list about a new CD-ROM stating what I liked and didn't like, and
asked if anyone else had had experience with it. That was on a Friday
afternoon. The following Monday morning I received a call from the
marketing director of the company. He, his boss, our building network
coordinator, and I spent several minutes discussing our problems and what
could be done to correct them. The company representatives were also
interested in our suggestions for improving their product.

I felt it was a productive session that accomplished much. It not only
reinforced the value of LM_NET; it also showed me that vendors do pay
attention to our concerns. Had I not queried LM_NETTERS, we probably would
not have made contact with the company executives who were able to solve
our problems so quickly. That phone call was one I was happy to receive.
