Hello All, Well, well, well, what to do? Our school has AUP policies signed by parents and students. The violaters of the AUP have been taken on a case by case basis regarding disciplinary action. For the most part, as a consequence, violators have lost their Internet privileges for that school year. This has been going worked well until recently. Are your violators given a shorter suspension from privileges? Here is the twist we are now encountering and I am requesting feedback on: When our only source of Internet hookups were in the LMC in open labs, it was much easier to monitor activity. We are rapidly adding labs that are online as well as classroom stations thoughout our building. Also, many teachers are requiring the use of the Internet in order to accomplish the goals of the class. So, if any of you are experiencing this, this is my big question: how are you then handeling those students who have lost their Internet privileges? My building principal as well as myself and the other LMS feel we cannot deny an education to a student. We certainly can't prohibit a student from resources needed to accomplish the required assignments. Ideas we have been knocking around: Teacher creating an alternative/modified assignment Teacher/LMS/Paraprofessional sitting beside the student as they are working on the Internet I'd be glad to hear any suggestions. _____________________________________________________________________________ ***************************************************************************** _____________________________________________________________________________ Deborah Delsemme 200 Blue Jay Drive Library Media Specialist Liberty, MO 64068 Liberty High School 816-415-5340 delsemme@mail.liberty.k12.mo.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
