We run Molli which is a product of the same company that makes Athena. At the beginning of the year, we type labels for each magazine and place them on the magazine before it is placed on the shelf. The label(file folder size)contains the name of the magazine, issue date, and the number assigned in the same method (magazine # + publication date)you were talking about. The labels help in two ways: great if the magazine is checked out + it enables us to quickly see the issue date when the magazine is placed in storage files to archive. Some of our more popular research magazines (Time, Newsweek, etc.) get a label with a barcode printed from a "Brother" labeling machine that allows us to print an actual barcode. -- Sonji K.
