I don't know who asked for the D.C. info so I am sending this general reply. When we lived in Alexandria, Va. (across the river from D.C.) we had a special place we always took our visitors. It is Gravley Point and is on the George Washington Parkway, just north of National Airport. It is just a park with a boat dock but what is interesting is that it is a great place to watch airplanes. If they are landing from north to south the planes are so low anyone with a decent arm could throw a ball up and hit one. We would always get icecream or take a picnic and just watch for a while. Kids thought it was great! If you go north on the Parkway (from Alexandria to Arlington) look for the entrance on the right just after the airport. If you are coming toward Alexandria fromArlington, you have to look for a median turn-around and go back after you pass it. Just thought you might like to hear about something a little unusual.
