I'm not in an elementary library -- BUT I do teach YA Lit. I have always
thought The Giver should only be for upper middle school to high school
levels. I prefer to use it with juniors and seniors as I believe the
issues raised can be researched and discussed better on this level. It
is not that I believe  elementary students can't read it but I prefer to
use it with 1984 and Brave New World. I really question its use at the
elementary level.
