Target: Illustrator for The Boxcar Children

Seeing the discussion about Gertrude Chandler Warner and her books reminds me
that this group might be the way to get a piece of information I've been
looking for:  my husband remembers the illustrations in the edition of The
Boxcar Children he read as a child (probably in the early to mid 1950s) with
great fondness and wants a copy with those illustrations.  I can't search for
it until I know how to identify it--that is, the edition with illustrations by
________________, or published by ______________, or whatever.  Can anyone
help?
