Just a reminder of the upcoming Susan Steinfirst Memorial Lecture to be given by Mary Pope Osborne: The School of Information and Library Science invites you to attend the first annual Susan Steinfirst Memorial Lecture on Children's Literature. The presenter will be noted children's author, Mary Pope Osborne, who will speak on "Myth, Legend and History: Sources of Inspiration for a Children's Author." This lectureship is funded by the family and friends of Dr. Steinfirst, a beloved professor of children's and young adult literature in the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill from 1976- 1996. Dr. Steinfirst died of cancer in March of 1997. Mary Pope Osborne is an award-winning author who is known for her Magic Tree House fiction series. One of her recent books, One World, Many Religions, won the National Council of Teachers of English Outstanding Nonfiction for Children Award in 1997. (The web site www.Amazon.com lists Osborne titles.) Ms. Osborne is past president of the Author's Guild and a 1994 recipient of UNC-Chapel Hill's Distinguished Alumnus Award. . The Steinfirst Lecture, sponsored by the School of Information and Library Science, will be held Saturday, April 4, at 10 am in Room 209 Manning Hall. This lecture is part of the North Carolina Literary Festival, held from April 3-5 on the university campus in Chapel Hill. C.
