TECH:Scanners

I got wonderful information on cameras yesterday, and now "they"
want to know about scanners.  We are building a new high school, and
the journalism department has a lab and needs equipment.  They have a
darkroom but know that the computer technology will be used more than
the darkroom.  What kind of scanner do they need for photos, etc. for
the paper?  I know nothing about this and would love to hear what
advice you would give for both a journalism department and a library.
