Re: GEN: fowarding LM_NET messages

Dear LM_NET Colleagues,

The main reason that I put that line about the LM_NET messages being
protected by copyright was due to the recent unattributed and unauthorized
publication of an LM_NET message by a publisher. They didn't ask the
person who had posted the message originally, and they didn't say where
they got the quote.

LM_NET messages are routinely "rebroadcast" or "mirrored" to conference
systems or newsgroups. That is how many people stay abreast of LM_NET
postings.

If there is no charge, as is the case with Susan Choi's reposting to
CALIBK12, I don't see a problem with it. However, when a company starts
making a profit off of LM_NET messages, without the permission of the
person posting the message, and not even attributing the source of the
quote or information, I feel that it is not only unscrupulous, but also
unfair and we want to put a stop to it!

That is why the copyright notice is on all of the messages now. We want to
make sure that anyone trying to take unfair advantage of our free service
by violating our members' copyright is forewarned.
