Jackie Basaraba Williston High School Williston, ND basaraba@sendit.nodak.edu Our principal is looking at making one of the large rooms of our LMC into a study hall. We serve approximately 1000 students in grades 9-12 and have seating in the LMC of 100 in two large rooms the Reference Room and the Reading room. We also have 16 computers with direct internet access, automated card catalog, CD-ROM SIRS and EBSCO. A few years ago,the previous principal had arranged to have 2-4 study hall students placed in each classroom and eliminated the large study hall used before. (We needed the space for more classrooms and special education rooms). Study Hall students can leave the classroom for the LMC if they have a pass to do so and must remain in the LMC the entire period. Our current principal has decided this does not work and is looking at the LMC as study hall . I have made other suggestions as have other teachers. (Open campus for seniors, study hall in the lunchroom, require more credits for students so they don't have study halls, etc.) I even shared with him that we have classes using the library for research over 65% of the days of the school year, but to no avail. HELP! Does anyone have a study hall in their LMC? Can you give me any ideas?
