My mom read Jane Eyre, Little Women, Secret Garden, A Little Princess, Tales from Shakespeare to me. I still read them yearly. Besides the old standby Nancy Drew, I also remember liking a series called Donna Parker, but I can't find anyone who remembers the series, so I'm beginning to wonder if I was just hallucinating or something (it WAS the 60's after all). Does anyone else remember it? I used to get one each week at KMart. My husband loved a book called The 23rd Street Crusaders, which we finally got for him from Bibliofind (thanks to this great group). It's a 1958 Scholastic about a bunch of street toughs who learn the values of teamwork and community when a stranger starts coaching them in basketball. It is a really good book.. Even our daughter and her friends like it. She has a list of kids at her high school who want to borrow it from us. With the whole "It takes a Village" theme being so popular, it should be reprinted.
