ELEM: Spring and poetry fun

April greetings!
First Grade: read Jennie's Hat by Ezra Jack Keats (while you';re wearing
an outrageious Spring hat... Then  (you already wove together a HUGE hat
out of manilla paper and put a fabric bow around it and stapled it up on
a Bulletin board.)  Have your kids plow through flower catalogs and
magzines and wall paper books and cut out the spring stuff to staple all
over the hat.

Third grade:  Cut out, or have them cut out 'pocket' shapes from
whatever you like ( wallpaperbooks or construction paper?) and have the
kids create pockets that they will stuff a favorite poem in and hang the
pockets up all over the place for other people to reach in the pockets
as they walk by.  Or do a variation by hanging pockets all over your
school and ask classes and individuals to stuff them at will...
