Dear all: In spite of teaching at what I regard as a very safe school, with no safety problems...yet... I couldn't help feeling as I left the building today..."I survived." As many of you we have tightened things up and are actively working to prevent problems...yet...things have changed..suddenly what I am doing feels more dangerous. The one bright spot in all of this is the dialogue going on everywhere around me between everyone (at McDonald's, the filling station, the bank, between neighbors, at church, in the print and electronic media, between students, between parents and teachers, etc.) about safety, causes, the needs of children and teens, the role of adults, and how we can help each other arrive at a new paradigm about society and young people. -- Nancy Lieber Lower School Library/Media Specialist University School of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI Nlieber@execpc.com or Nlieber@usm.k12.wi.us Phyllis R.
