Hello, Group. We are going into our year of Accelerated Reader; last year, we had great success running it as a pilot program for third and fourth grade only. We will be going school-wide this year; in fact, my principal wants to use the program with our kindergarten and first graders from the beginning. My personal preference is to start it with second graders, but "ours is not to question why. . ." My question is: how can we utilize the program for pre-readers? Setting them in our laps one-by-one and reading the questions is a bit more labor-intensive than we can afford. The only thing I can think of is to have a special program for those grades only where we read the story as a group and answer the questions as a group, and make some sort of small award based on that. That is not very satisfactory to me, but it would fulfill the letter of the administration's request. Any more creative ideas? I will post a hit. Ours is a small inner-city school, mostly Hispanic, about 50% bilingual. Lawrence Newton, Librarian P.H.
