After teaching 6th graders on a 9 week rotation (everyday) for 4 years, scuttlebut (sp?) has it that I will now be seeing them only 1 day a week all year long. Will not be confirmed until inservice, day before classes begin in September. This has nothing to do with this request, but. . .I understand that the period I used to teach 6th grade rotation will now be replaced with. . . either cafeteria duty OR noontime detention duty. I am trying to grin and bare it (deep breath!). Lessons previously taught included: OPAC use, search strategies, telephone books, world almanacs, specialized reference books, i.e. Bartlett's, Biography Today, Current Biography, geographical dictionaries, specialized almanacs, dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. Do I continue trying to teach these as best I can or should I change strategy and concentrate on books and authors? I will continue OPAC lessons. BTW, I will probably see these students in 7th grade on a 6 week rotation, BUT if I were to try to do the 6th grade lessons with them, the Powerpoint and HyperStudio lessons would have to go. Your opinions and suggestions are welcomed.
