Accelerated Reader is tied to the 3rd to 5th reading grades so tightly that my nonfiction and any books not on "The List" don't get much use! My principal even told me to pleasure read only books on the AR list. For the lower grades that is not a problem, but with chapter books, I don't see how they can retain the story over a 5 or 6 week period enough to test well on the story! :-( There must be a way to establish a happy medium!!!
