Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 06:17:04 PDT Hi everyone. I've just returned from last week's National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), which was held this year in Atlantic City. While I was there I took part in a session hosted by Dr. Larry Anderson of Mississippi State, which also included Al Rogers of Global Schoolhouse, Tom March, developer of WebQuests, and Shelley Pasnik of the Center for Children and Technology. The session was supposed to be a broad Q&A discussion on education issues, but the focus quickly turned to the debate over government mandated filtering and students' publishing rights on the Web. I've made a transcript of the session that can be found online at http://edweb.gsn.org/necc99/experts.html I'd invite all of you to read it if you get a chance. It's a little long (8000 words) but it's a revealing look at educators' attitudes towards filtering and (in some cases) what happens when educators don't understand or recognize students' web publishing rights. Hope you enjoy it...
