Hi Joni: I was very happy to see your response about the use of 398.2 books. I have needed from time to time to tell well-intentioned teachers (they didn't want kids to mess up my shelves), that it was ok for little ones to browse any shelf in the media center. Like you, I think the solution is to let any child at any grade level, explore any part of the media center they find exciting. Dade County public schools curriculum, clearly states, even for the lower grades, that students have to learn to distinguish between finction and nonfiction, so I use nonfiction books in my lessons from kindergarten on.
