What I've done for the last few years at our elementary school --other than the usual posting a sign & telling the kids that the library is open at Open House-- is have a bowl of candy (lollipops). If kids wander in, they always see the bowl. Then I tell them if they bring back a parent to sign my visitors list, they can have a piece of candy. Off they go & drag in Mom or Dad. Once they're inside, the computers which have an interesting program on the screen usually catch their attention long enough to tour the room. The other thing that used to bring 'em in at another school was the huge fish tank. Unfortunately I could have been a life sized cardboard sign as the kids dragged parents through saying "there's the fish, there's where I get books, there's the librarian...".
