Thanks to all who sent encouraging messages and advice concerning our Media Center's challenge of Rob Thomas' Rats Saw God. Basically you said: 1. 1999 Young Reader's Choice nominee in the senior division 2. South Carolina Young Adult Book Award nominee last school year 3. Washington State Evergreen Book Award nominee this year 4. Rob Thomas has a web page, an e-mail address, and check the interview in Voya from possibly the August 1997 issue 5. Contact ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom I now know the parent wants the book removed from our school LMC. Objections were specifically about page 1 and page 150. That is about all the parent read... it made them "sick" to read any more. We have a district policy in place. Our building IMC meets June 2 and all 6 members are to have read the book. At that time we make a building decision and if the parent is still unhappy they can take the complaint to the district level. The book remains in use until a final decision is made. I've photocopied reviews of the book from all sources and also printed some of your comments for members of the committee. I am hunting down the Voya interview and intend to email Rob Thomas after I've read his comments. I'll let you know what happens after June 2nd. Again, thanks for your words of advice and encouragement -- Patti Tjomsland Library Media Specialist Mark Morris High School Longview, WA 98632 zimba@kalama.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
