Here are the responses to the World War II recipe request I posted.  You
all were wonderful and once again I thank you.

Aunt Tillie's Poor man's fruit cake recipe (it follows here)
        Bring to a boil for 5 minutes the following
        2 cups brown sugar
        2 cups hot water
        2 T shortning
        1 tsp. salt
        1 pkg raisins
        1 tsp. each cinnamin, cloves, nutmeg
        cool
        when cool add, 3 c.ubs of flour, 1 tsp, baking soda, dissolved in 1 T
wat er  (I think)
        l tsp. baking powder
        Mix well, bake about 1 hour 25 minutes in 325 degree oven, in fluted
bundt pan.

Another recipe,
Peanut butter candy
        bake 3--4 potatoes till well done
        then peel
        mash potatoes with powder sugar until they won't absorb  any more
                sugar
        roll mixture out onto cookie sheet (wax paper covering the cookie
                shee)
        Then chill
        Smooth peanut butter across top
        Rol up the potato powdered sugar like ajelly roll
                Slice into thin slices and serve
