Thank you to everyone that sent suggestions. The only book I've not been able to find is of course the one my teacher wants. I found that The house without a Christmas tree by Rock is out of print. We are a small district and must have everything approved through board office purchase orders so Amazon, etc. are out of the question for me at this point. I'm sure we will be happy with one of the other suggestions. Thanks again. Christmas Books: What Child is This? By Caroline Cooney. How about "The Christmas sonata" by Paulsen? "The house without a Christmas tree" by Rock?, or, one of my favorites "Song of the Christmas mouse" by Murphy. Santa Paws & Santa Paws returns. My students absolutely love the Great Christmas Kidnapping Caper by Jean Van Leewan. They belly laugh when I get to the part about the "fat guy in a red suit". :-) There was a fantastic book that came out last year.....I can't find it for you since our computer system crashed and burned (literally).....the cover is blue with white writing I believe. Small book--a little bit bigger than a paper back size, wonderful short chapters. Has to do with 2 foster kids being put into a home. The boy is pretty jaded by life, the girl--younger--is just full of the wonder of Christmas. It talks about his life in MS/HS......how she changes him, and how he eventually saves her life one night when she wanders away in the snow. It's a great book. Made me cry. I passed it onto my 6th grade advisees, and they cried. I wish I could remember what it was called....Maybe if you do an Amazon/Barnes and Noble search, you'll find it? I believe it has an embossed picture on the cover.....maybe a church? I just went into B & N and couldn't find it......someone MUST know it.....it just came out. Have you read Five Alien Elves? I read part of it to 4th grade and then had each child read one chapter, than we mapped the book--that way they still wanted to check it out and read it themselves but it was great fun. Aliens flying near earth during the Christmas season believe Santa Claus has enslaved earthlings and they zoom in to the rescue. -- Have you considered a Hanukkah or Kwanzaa chapter book instead? (no suggestions on titles tho) What about Gary Paulsen's Christmas Sonata - it's fairly short. What about Cynthia Rylant's Stories of Christmas. (I believe that's the title.) There are several short stories in there and some are great (Silver Packages). Worst Christmas Pageant Ever One of our 4th grades does many activities with the book by Russell E. Erickson - "Wharton's Christmas Eve Adventure" Tracy Taylor Library Media Specialist Bedford & Milton Elementary Schools Trimble County, KY tracy@trimble.k12.ky.us "I'm not organizationally challenged...
