LM_NET: Library Media Networking

Our two middle schools, teachers, students and the library media specialists
love Channel One. In 1991 we discussed, viewed, compared, and consulted
with our parents about the advertisements. The parents felt comfortable
with the 2 minutes (or less) of commercial time. Sure, Fritos and
bubble-gummer movies are advertised, but, hey, it beats Geritol, Tums, and
automobile commercials on the nightly news! *And* the percentage time
dedicated to commercials is less that the nightly news!

It is so wonderful to hear 6th graders walking down the hall talking about
what life as a teenage mom is really like, or how real the war in Sarajevo
was with the young reporter there, or what it would be like to sit next to a
lowland gorilla.

The youthful, clear-eyed reporters are great role models, and there are even
mature, famous guest reporters. Oh yes, Channel One had a live satellite
"town hall" with President Clinton the day after Columbine's tradegy about
teenage violence. Evening news did not.

As many have voiced, the Classroom Connect is well done.

As for me, I am thrilled to hear students cheer from their rooms when they
answer the news quiz question for the day correctly.

We have never regretted the decision. If we sold out, the price was low,
and the purchase wasa garage sale goldmine.

Cheers!
