I made bookmarks with K-4 last year in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. I
cut out bookmark sized pieces of poster board (white) and punched a hole
at the top. I had a table piled with magazines and another table piled
with pre-cut pieces of fabric (I sew a lot and had LOTS of scraps to
share!). The students sat at tables that had glue sticks, crayons,
washable markers, safety scissors and pencils. I told them they could
use any or all of the items to create their bookmark. They turned out
GREAT! Some of the kids cut them into shapes, some glued fabric within
the border while some glued the fabric so it draped off the edge, some
colored, some drew a Cat in the Hat - they were all unique and wonderful
(and the library was a mess but so what). I had them for 40 minutes and
everyone was able to finish a bookmark in that time period.
