I am in the same situation as Cheryl, supervising 70-100 students, especially during the noon hour. The students prefer to be in the Media Resource Centre to the cafeteria. Since there is no student lounge, I allow it and yes, I do supervise that hour and have a few rules which I enforce. eg. only 4 seated at a small round table, no games, chat rooms or "bad" sites on the Internet, students who are doing homework have first dibs on the computers. No food and/or drink allowed is the hardest one to enforce. It takes an hour of time, but I try to use it to get to know the students better and help if I can. -- Betty Warkentin Library Technician Swan Valley Regional School Swan River, MB Canada warbet@mail.svsd35.mb.ca Look not back in bitterness, or forward in fear, but stand in the wonder of the moment."
