I will post another compilation tomorrow or the next day, when it looks
like most responses are in. This has served as a good reminder about
some books I have had for a while, as well as a list to use in checking
my holdings and making a new order. Thanks to everyone who shared! Best
wishes and enjoy the remainder of your holiday, Mary Ann
**********
When you get a list together of best YA
books, let me know. I liked HOLES and also really liked SEEDFOLKS.
********************
I enjoyed Tangerine, and A Long Way From Chicago by Peck, An older, but
still very favorite of mine is Rules of the Road
***************
Holes by Louis Sachar was my favorite.
****************
Rules of the Road by Bauer
Shakespeare Stealer by Blackwood
***************
I could not put Holes (Sachar) down. of course, Harry Potter!
****************
The best books I read were:
The Harry Potter series
Holes by Sacher
Boxes by Sleator
****************

I loved Silverwing by Kenneth Opel and its sequel Sunwing. Fast paced
adventures of a bat. Sounds goofy but I really enjoyed them both.

I also got hooked on The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper. This is
not
a new series, but I just got to it. Good vs evil fantasy.

It will be interesting to read the responses you receive.
****************

Best ones I read are the Harry Potter books. I've also added YaYa
Sisterhood for our decades fiction requirement (besides which, I adored
the book!) Please post a hit....I'm on our book order now too!
*******************
A couple of books I would highly recommend to young adults:
The Only Alien on the Planet by Kristen Randle
The Boys of St. Petrie by Bjarne Reuter (historical fiction)
*******************
I just read Walter Dean Myers' Monster this weekend. It may not be one
of my "top
three" but I think it is a good novel to add to a YA collection. Will
be great to
booktalk, should have fairly wide appeal. The writing style and
technique are
different....the protagonist is a Harlem high school film student who is
accused in a
murder case. He tells the story as a screen play in many parts...much
of the story is
the trial. Good suspense too.
****************
Holes by Louis Sachar - Fantastic! Great for symbolism!
***********************
Do they have to be new? I liked Gentlehands (Kerr), Life in the Fat
Lane,
and Bloomability by Creech.
