Aloha - a student used the phrase "won the battle, but lost the war" as part of the summation in a paper on Pearl Harbor. The teacher asked for the source of the phrase. I didn't see the actual paper, so I don't know if the student quoted it as an old cliche ... or what exactly. The student came to me for help in finding the source of the quote. I tried Bartlett's on the web, and several other web sources of quotes, also used parts of the phrase in both altavista and dogpile searches. I came up with a lot of uses of the phrase ... but no mentions of where it might have originated. Does anyone know ... or have ideas for sites besides Altavista, Dogpile and AskJeeves that might have this kind of quote? *** Candace Foster Librarian, Aina Haina Elementary 801 Hind Drive Honolulu, HI 96821 candacef@kalama.doe.hawaii.edu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
