Hi there! I am desperately in need of assistance in locating possible fairy tales to study for my dissertation. The study is one comparing female and male characters in traditional fairy tales to female and male characters in post modern/contemporary/fractured fairy tales. I'm trying to compile an exhaustive list of contemporary fairy tale titles. Could you help me? The criteria for the types of books I'm looking for follows: 1. The fairy tale is a picture book meant for a child audience. 2. The main character of the fairy tale is a female portrayed as a stronger type of character than many traditional female fairy tale heroines. For instance, in The Paper Bag Princess, the princess rescues the prince while Sleeping Ugly portrays a homely princess rather than the beautiful princess typically characterized in traditional fairy tales. 3. The book was published no earlier than 1969. If you know of one, two, or 100 titles of books that would meet the above criteria, could you please email me with your list? I'm very excited about the study. Many of these newer, fractured-type fairy tales are clever and should be delightful to read and analyze. I appreciate your help immensely!
