Last year besides the display of books and info on why they were challenged
or banned we had the State Police stage a raid on the library to arrest
"The Chocolate War". The officer chased me through the lunch room, did the
hand cuffs and all. The kids thought it was real for a while. The book
was then placed in "jail" and the Law class held the trial. Lots of info
on censorship and 1st amendment rights. The verdict was not guilty.
The year before we papered all the library windows and taped off the doors
with crime scene tape (the real stuff). The kids had to knock to get in
and I pretended like they had to sneak in with no one looking. Sort of the
forbidden room. That year they thought someone had died in the library.
Any way I can get them to question what's going on I do it.
