Someone commented:

"If this were a smaller listserv and/or one without a professional focus, =
off-topic threads might be considered more appropriate. There are other =
listservs with specific foci out there for the types of discussions you =
mention. At least for me, LM_Net is doing exactly what I want and need it =
to do. If we started cluttering with off-topic posts, many of us will =
have to unsubscribe because the volume will become too much. I believe we =
need to stay as focused as we can."

First of all, what is on-topic for one may seem off-topic for another. I =
think posters should be free to determine relevence for themselves, and =
loosely, with no fear of being criticized for being off topic.

Secondly, anybody who has a problem with their mailbox filling up, or no =
time to read the posts, or some kind of obligation to read every post - =
this is your issue, not the community's. There are technical fixes, free =
mail accounts and many ways for individuals to deal with these problems.

The opinions expressed are my own!

"You have to be cynical, you have to question things. You can't take =
someone named Belle LaBelle on face value. What's her angle, huh? Who's =
payroll is she on? You find out the answers to those things, and then you =
start movin' fast and crooked. You go through doorways sideways and low, =
at odd angles. You look for the big lie, question everything." Jim =
