Need Information on Technology Mentor Programs

Dear LM-NETTERS -

I am writing a proposal to implement a technology mentor teacher program
at our school. I realize that many of these programs are implemented at
the district level; however, this will be a site based decision that we
will be trying on our own.

I already have a general idea of what I want to propose. I would like to
develop a job description indicating how mentors would assist in
developing the school technology plan, assist in technology maintenance,
serve as role models for curriculum technology integration, share
integration ideas with their departments, help teachers implement these
ideas in their classrooms, and teach department members basic computer
maintenance and use of equipment.

The proposal will also include a staff development plan necessary to
support mentor teachers in carrying out their responsibilities and an
incentive program for teachers serving as mentors. Incentives might
include year-long use of a laptop computer, approved release time to
work on special technology projects, and funding and release time to
attend one or two technology conferences or workshops during the year.

I would be interested in learning about the successes and failures of
similar mentor programs and in obtaining planning information such as
program goals, objectives, and strategies; mentor job descriptions;
staff development schedules; incentives; funding resources; and tools
for program evaluation. I would appreciate any assistance or information
which could lead me to learning more about existing programs. Thanks.
