Mary Lynne - Well your son-in-law was correct. There was a series of books
about a friendly purple monster; it was called Monster. I have about six of
them in Spanish. There were two sets each with about 14 titles. Some
examples of the titles are: Monster Cleans the House, Monster and the Magic
Umbrella and Monster comes to the City; the first in set one. The series was
first published in 1973 by the Bowmar Publishing Co and was written by Ellen
Blance and Ann Cook. The Spanish editions were published the following year.
The ISBN number for the first book is 0-8372-1160-3.
They are adorable books. I can see why your son-in-law has such fond
memories of them. I hope this information helps.
