Quite a while back, when I was teaching 2nd grade, I used to do a very informal study of my reading groups to see who knew their Mother Goose rhymes. I generally found that the top readers in my class knew the rhymes well, while the lowest readers could barely recite them. Which came first: the chicken or the egg? Were the good readers more capable because they were taught the rhymes at home, or were they good readers because they could pick up the rhymes quickly? This is something I have wondered about for years and would love to do a more scientific study of this. In another lifetime, when I have more time . . . . :-) Gretchen Baldauf Gbaldauf@aol.com Edison Elementary School 236 Grayton Road Tonawanda, NY 14150 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
