I have a damaged book tale to share. I have been sharing it all week with my Ks
who are taking out books for the first time this coming week.
When my daughters were younger we had a series of gerbils. At some point one of
them escaped from his cage and remained "on the lam" in my two story home for one
week. At the end of that time he popped his head out from behind some piece of
furniture and was re-captured. We ried to guess where he had hidden until my
oldest was looking for a paperback to return to the school library. She searched
under the family room sofa where she found a half eaten book and a nearby nest.
Of course we replaced the book but I was mortified since the LMS knew what I did
for a living. I use this as an example of why we should all have a special
library book place away from pets and younger siblings. However I am somewhat
more understanding when the wacky stories accompany the damaged books.
I guess a little humility is good for us all,
Jo
