Holt paints a beautiful and warm picture of  life in a small Texas in
the summer of 1971.  In the middle of it all, Toby's mom leaves for
Nashville, Cal's brother is killed in Vietnam, and Zachary Beaver a
600 pound boy comes to town for a while.  Toby and Cal befriend
him and do something wonderful for him before he leaves.  I stayed
up too late one night reading this 227 page book, not because of
an exciting plot, but because of the warm feeling I got from
becoming part of the life in that town, and the friendships and
concerns there.  Don't miss this one!
