        Yes, being proacdtive is the most obvious.   And, it is amazing how
so often that isn't the case.  We  should never ever underestimate the
value of being proactive and I'm glad you brought it up.     My tips:
newsletters
personal communiations
school web site
email
weekly announcements in the faculty bulletin
going to team planning meetings
ongoing staff development
providing good service so they know you can do a good job (put your money
where your mouth is)
