1. Hottest talk-back radio host Australia-wide is John Laws.
2. Hottest topic on this morning's show is Harry Potter.
3. Most interesting thing is the number of boys ringing in (about 11-12 years old -
some states are
still on holiday) saying that they now enjoy reading, even though they didn't read
before.
(Includes one who called Hermione "Hormone')
4. And John Laws said, "That is the critical issue - learning to love reading and
reading for the
rest of your life." And he sent some of them copies of Jack London's "Call of the
Wild".
5. Lesson for us - what is it about the series, or its promotion, or whatever that
has been so
successful that we can take away and use in our classrooms or libraries?
6. Point of interest - Ms Rowling is now the third richest woman in the UK!

Only 3 more sleeps and it is released here - why the delay I wonder?

Cheers
Barbara

PS If your school can't afford it, maybe you could consider a little fundraiser - I
put a 'poor box'
decorated as a wizard hat by the canteen window and another in the library with a
sign "Muggles for
Harry Potter". Kids dropped in their small change and now we have enough for two
copies! I had
already pre-ordered them expecting to pay for them myself, but now I don't have to!
 $70.00 I can
spend on something else.
