This morning, while having coffe at a local ast food restaurant that I
frequent daily, I was describing to a friend the costume I wore and the
party I attended at a local book store on July 8 to pick up the Goblet
of Fire. A middle-aged man overhearing the conversation while reading in
his Bible interrupted to ask why I was promoting the occult!! The
conversation got very uncomfortable and I had to move to another part of
the restaurant to get away from his tirade.Of course he had not read the
books. Anyone else experiencing any random acts of venemous anti-Potter
behavior??

On a other note of concern: one of our local chain bookstores hosted a
series of Potter-related experiences. I attended the visit by two
"525-year-old wizards" just to see what the event would be like. I was
quite uncomfortable. I had hoped for costumed characters able to field
trivia questions about the various Potter stories. Instead the two
seemed to be "real wizards" and talked more along cult lines than about
the books. It was fairly bland but probably not what parents and I
thought it would be. Trouble is, many children had been dropped off and,
I fear, the parents will never know if the session was appropriate or
not for their kids. Wish that this sort of event were not tied to the
Potter books as it fuels the people like the one I encountered at the
restaurant.
