I hope all of you enjoyed ABC's Arabian Nights as much as I did. Today I asked if any third graders had watched Sunday night's show. Several had and proceeded to tell the story of Back Back the Sultan's jester to the rest of the class. They were able to retell the story to the delight of classmates and many wanted to check out the books I had on Aladdin, AliBaba, Hodja Stories and more. I thought the TV program was very well done as it represented storytelling in all its enchantment. I liked Shaharazade's response to her husband's complaint that he seemed to "learn" something from each story. her comment: that "... all good stories have a moral". My third graders could identify the moral of Back Back's story: to always admit what you do wrong and take responsibility! The ending battle with all of its references to the previous tales was a great finale. Amazing how good the material for the actors is when it has stood the test of time. What a delightful event the special turned out to be. -- Nancy Lieber Lower School Library/Media Specialist University School of Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI Nlieber@execpc.com or Nlieber@usm.k12.wi.us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
